Deep inside the Palombian jungle, a rickety old boat sails up a sluggish river. On board is one of the world’s most famous hunters, and he’s vowed to be the first to capture a Marsupilami. But that’s no easy prey. The long-tailed creature is smart – much smarter than any human believes. And an alliance with the local natives isn’t going to be much help: they hate the Marsupilami who keeps outwitting them, and they’re desperate to find out what he tastes like…

The Palombian jungle is a cornucopia of strange and mysterious animal and vegetal species. Among those, a butterfly whose female has never been captured is the object of the ambitions of many scientists – and competition causes conflicts. A situation that the Marsupilami, who hates having his nap interrupted, finds positively unacceptable … although the opportunities to play with this new treetop research lab that’s suddenly appeared might make up for the inconvenience!

While on an expedition in Antarctica, the Count of Champignac makes an extraordinary discovery: a still-viable dinosaur egg! Having brought the precious find back to his castle, he invites a few colleagues over – along with Spirou and Fantasio – and sets about hatching the egg. But working towards scientific progress isn’t easy when one is somewhat absent-minded … and saddled with a whimsical Marsupilami ‘assistant’! Soon, life in the village of Champignac becomes rather complicated...

At Spirou magazine, life goes on, punctuated by the occasional bouts of insanity of Gomer’s cats, attacks by Gomer’s gull, and disasters caused by Gomer’s latest invention … In other words, business as usual. And at least his coworkers can have some peace while he nods off at his desk! Outside of work, though, peace is not an option. Everyone? Well, not quite... There’s that office boy, Gomer. No one’s entirely sure what his job description is, or how he got hired. One thing is certain, though: he’s a walking disaster zone! When Gomer isn’t unwittingly sabotaging all work at Spirou Magazine, he naps at his desk and dreams of being a handsome, fearless action hero for Miss Jeanne – not realising that this is already how she sees him! But outside the office, out in the city streets, well, that’s Officer Longsnoot’s territory, and between him and gomer – and most importantly Gomer’s often apocalyptically tweaked car – a merciless war of nerves is waged every day!

Spirou and Fantasio are famous – among other things, as the official discoverers of that legendary creature, the Marsupilami, one of which often accompanies them on their adventures. So when one of their conferences is cancelled in favour of a documentary film from an unknown author, they are understandably irritated… until, that is, they realise the film is the very first to record the family life of wild Marsupilamis!

Gomer is a genius and a walking hazard – it is known. But often overlooked is how he’s far from the only one. In his daily efforts at subverting the professional world, he’s often accompanied by his menagerie – trickster cat, temperamental gull, voracious mouse and even, on occasion, a goldfish – and his brothers in laziness and silly ideas, Jules and Bertie. In Palombia, the president is throwing a lavish completion ceremony for a colossal project: a dam across the mighty river Huaytoonarro. An event that couldn’t leave the Marsupilami more indifferent, for he has other piranhas to fry: Mrs Marsupilami has disappeared. Our friend’s nose tells him that it was the doing of Bring M. Backalive, the famous hunter, and he rushes after the kidnapper, soon followed by Sarah and Bip … and then the situation becomes even more complicated!

Noah, Donald and Solorio, having rescued the rest of the children kidnapped by the ruthless gold prospectors of the Palombian rainforest, have escaped up the Boavista River, despite the rumours of terrible danger in that region. One evening, frightened by, yet drawn towards, demented laughter in the distance, they discover a lost temple, and at its top, a mysterious light. Worried about them, the Marsupilami soon joins them again – and not a moment too soon …

A plane carrying two Chinese government envoys goes down in the Palombian jungle. A crate is parachuted out just before the crash. It contains a baby panda, official gift of China to a neighbouring country. The young survivor is found and taken in by the Marsupilami’s family, but they soon face a serious problem: their new charge only eats bamboo – the only local source of which lies inside the nearby native village…

There’s no denying Gomer’s genius. Mechanics, botany, chemistry, zoology, musicology … His brain is capable of sudden brilliance in everything at which he tries his hand. The problem is that, brilliant or not, his inventions are never quite right for either the time, or the place. Which leads to disaster after disaster, fuelling his colleagues’ aggravation. Fortunately, he still has the loyalty of his cat and gull – and the unfailing affection of Miss Jeanne …
