    Read this book

I liked this book. The main characters are believable and the story line moves along well. It is an easy read with an ending that just screams for another installment. So who is Brother Cyric, really. I just cannot wait for the next volume.

This new story from Paul is a triumph

This is a new story from Paul J Bennett. As with his Heir to the Crown books, he has created good strong characters. Particularly the two main characters Athgar and Natalia. Both from very different backgrounds, Athgar a fire mage which he discovers from tragedy, and Natalia a water mage removed from her family as a little girl and taken to an academy for training and education. The great thing that Paul has done is create the anticipation of these two characters meeting. You cannot wait for this to happen. Once this occurs we learn more about them and their world. We learn about magic and sorcery as never before and we learn more about Orcs. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it built up towards an exciting climax and of course leaving you wanting more. Paul's pacing and storytelling is in top form with this novel. It's not just the characters that excel, it is the relationships these characters create with each other that carries the reader through the book. Rich characters, a rich adventure, a rich read. Why 4 stars? Because I expect the following books to surpass this one.

    Excellent read

I was looking forward this this new series. I enjoy Paul Bennett's writing style very much and like the way he thoroughly develops his characters. I also enjoy the rate at which he releases his new books so I am not waiting a long time to re-connect with the characters and stories. Natalia and Athgar are a fire and water mage from different backgrounds who are on a quest. I really enjoyed this story and look forward the next book in the series.

    Out of the park!

Loved the new series opener. Great new characters and in another part of the same world. I wonder if the two story lines will eventually meet. It was over too soon. I am ready for more. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, and asked to read this book prior to the prequel. I would recommend reading the prequel first.
