    Brilliantly written!!

This is the quirkiest love story I have ever read! But it works! What a little gem of a book.

    An absolute delight!

The third standalone romantic comedy in the Winston Brother’s series by Penny Reid is Beard Science, an apt title for the smart and calculating character of Cletus whose machinations behind the scenes have been a staple in the previous books in the series. Now we get the delight of delving into his devious mind, and watching him get blown away by the intelligence and beauty of the one woman who sees through his façade to the real man underneath. Delightful, charming, inventive, heartwarming - really, there are many superlatives one could use to describe this author’s talents and they’d all be correct. Every story in the series is as unique as the characters that are represented, truly a daring feat where it’s all too common to find a trope you like as an author and stick to a tried and true formula. The only formula here is that taking a chance on love is worth the risk. The character growth and change is essential to this particular story. Jennifer starts out as a quiet, unassuming, and somewhat beaten down character. She goes along with anything her parents want, the defection of her brother to a local motorcycle club meaning that her mother can constantly play the teary eyed ‘but you’re the only child we have left!’ card and get Jennifer to do whatever she asks, so as not to add to the burden her mother carries. With Cletus now on her side helping her, she takes his advice in hand and starts making little changes, small refusals to fit in with her parents' expectations. Things like a different nail colour, a small change in her hair or her clothing – little acts of rebellion that fortify her nerve and her desire to move out and gain some independence. While Jennifer is gaining her backbone and her confidence, Cletus is discovering uncomfortable truths. He starts out as the confident, calculating, ‘everything is being handled’ kind of guy, only to discover that Jennifer is getting under his skin and making him question his motives and desires. Though he’d somewhat planned out his own love life, figuring on dating a new female mechanic they’ve hired at the shop, he realizes soon after that Jennifer is too fascinating for him to ignore, especially as those rebellious acts become more public. The sexual attraction between them sizzles, and the result is some steamy love scenes. But while Jennifer is definitely on board with some sexy times with Cletus, she’s also enjoying being able to express her own needs and desires for the first time in her life, and isn’t willing to give that up right away. She’s not going to change one dependent relationship for another, and Cletus is smart enough to know (and tell her) that she’s going to be worth the wait. The result is a beautifully done happy ending, suitable to both characters. As always, there are a combination of humorous and poignant scenes involving Cletus’s brothers and sister Ashley and a taste of what’s in store for the rest of the family. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!

    I Can't Recommend It Enough

I truly love Jennifer. She's a virgin, but this is totally not one of those cliché tales of the annoying little princess being corrupted by the undeniable alpha male. Jennifer has personality. She's been sheltered her entire life by her overbearing parents and is trying to stand on her own feet. She isn't rebelling and going all wild. She's a good person looking for a little breathing room and a few people to call friends. Cletus is one of the most unique and interesting characters I've come across. He's definitely sexy and appealing in many ways. He's also very smart and blunt. He sends signals by way of his outward appearance and mannerisms that he's just an average country boy mechanic. He's actually logging every detail of what goes on around him. He has the dirt on anyone and everyone and isn't above using it when it comes to protecting the few people he loves. I really enjoy the intelligent straight forward way he approaches life, and the way he talks is so refreshing. I'm in love. ♥︎♥︎ This is definitely the best romance I've read in a long time and one of my top reads this year. Nothing about it felt like something I had already read. That's very rare for me. I cannot recommend it enough. If you like sweet and funny romances, this is a must. I read it as a standalone, but I'm definitely going back to the read the other books now. 5++ stars

    Swoon-worthy, funny and delicious!

*ARC is received through Indie Sage PR in exchange for an honest opinion* My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ 5 Cletus & Jenn Stars! Beard Science is one delicious read and it have the perfect romance, humor and a very refreshing story line ever. Definitely a must read! So, I haven't read any other book in Winston series because I'm an idiot and thus I pretty much go in the blind reading this book. And my oh my! It is so dang good and I love it so much. First of all, I must say that out of all the heroes that I've read so far I think Cletus Winston was among the unique ilk and rarest type of breed because he was that different. I mean, he has ridiculously attractive beard and hair and he loves cakes especially one with blueberry flavor. He is good in making sausage and Italian food and he wasn't really a commitment phobic kind of guy as he seems to always recognized a woman that he found attractive and well-suited with him as The One but yet he doesn't want babies in his future. It was also really interesting that he has such a strong fixation problem and like to be in control of everything. With all those traits combines, I believe I have never met such an intriguing character as Cletus before. Jennifer Sylvester or Jenn was described as a very talented baker who works for her mother's bakery and pretty much follows everything that her mother asked her to do. She was also a very socially awkward person but at the same time she was really adorable and I like that when she is being invisible, she became an excellent people observer. Although Jenn may came across as a pushover, I enjoyed her journey developing a backbone and I really love it when she blackmailed Cletus! It shows that deep inside she has a strong spirit and I rooted for her to finally stand on her own two feet. (or in other words, Things That I Love About The Book) 1. There was a scene where Cletus hadn't seen Jenn in a week and the absence was making him crazy and thus this monologue of him came out. I knew he was super frustrated but it was really funny! Absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder. Whoever said that was a damn fool. Absence makes the heart suicidal. Take my heart for example. It hadn't stopped hurling itself against my ribs-at odd times, day or night-for a week. 2. I love how the author made the declaration of I love you around 70% in the story and managed to brilliantly keep up the pace interesting. This is because I usually found the declaration phase way too late towards the end and then I only get limited time to savor in the happy times. So, I was happy that phase came early in Beard Science and get enough happy times for the lead couple. 3. The ending is just so sweet and awesome and I like it so much. I specifically dig the spontaneous proposal and I think it was very real and perfect for Cletus and Jenn. I wish there would be an actual wedding taking place though because I'm a hopeless romantic but then it would be too soon so I think I am satisfied with that. That being said, I am absolutely and definitely recommending Beard Science to all the romance readers because the author's writing is impeccable as you would find yourself chuckling and giggling at things that you wouldn't expected and you totally need Cletus and Jenn in your life. This book is seriously a must read and a keeper!
