  • Wow!

This book blew my f******* mind. Although I'm still not sure, if it's in a good or a bad way, tho. And don't even get me started on that mother of all cliffhangers! What I loved about this book is that it's not your average story, where almost everything is predictable. Here you actually have to think to keep up with the plot and there are many twists and secrets that will keep your attention though the whole story. Also, having a sexy, dark and mysterious hero thrown into all that isn't bad either. Is it weird to say that I liked Reeve's character? He's franckly said an first class ass**** for most of the time but he does have his moments and they are exactly my reason for liking him so much. He's also a complete control freak and loves it when Emily submits to his will (especially in the bedroom). And as for Emily, where do I even start? We get to see her life before and after Amber and also all the reasons why and who she is today. I have to say, some of the things those two did were pretty messed up, and I mean that as in 'how are you still alive' way. There are some flashback scenes of when those two lived their suger baby lifestyle with their previous lovers (who were all demented in my opinion). We also get to know (in gruesome detail) how their friendship ended. At first I couldn't understand why, after everything that happened, would Emily want to help Amber, but at the end it became quite clear that they share this unique bond that will never be broken. Emily's character is strong, loyal, a bit broken but it is also capable of growth and love. Now, the reason I gave it four stars is that I felt like Amber was a constant presence, both in Emily and Reeve's lives. Although she is never in the picture, I got the feeling of a love triangle between these three characters. Amber was Reeve's previous lover and Emily always compared herself to her, was even jealous of her for having been with Reeve first. That bothered me a lot! I wanted this story to be mainly about Emily and Reeve's relationship and not with a third wheel in it! That being said, there are still many mysteries and questions to be resolved and I cannot wait to see what the next book has in store for us. Definitely recommend reading it! Safety-gang: Not safe.

  • A difficult read.

Emily and Amber are 'best friends' or are they? This book about the 2 women's relationship is looked at in detail and when Amber disappears Emily starts looking for her. She comes across Amber's last boyfriend and starts her own relationship with him. Where will it all lead? Well written storyline but it is often hard to read as some of the events in the different relationships are difficult and unpleasant. Laurelin Paige tackles these issues in a worthy way but some people may find this book and the follow-up too hard.
