  • Resiliency During WWII

Imagined stories of what could have happened during World War II are so compelling. This is certainly one of those. It follows the travails of a French woman married to a German man who owned a business in Poland. The family is beset by heartbreaking problems from the very beginning. The heroine is so very strong, determined to make things right for herself and her remaining family; she is remarkably resilient. I enjoyed seeing the world through the young woman's eyes, or rather, nose! The world is certainly a different place for someone who is so finely attuned to an unusual sense. I also liked learning about the art and science of perfumery. I thought the book was perhaps a little overwritten in places, and the beginning had a bit of an information dump, even if it was better done than most. Still, I found this to be a riveting read. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

    Thanks for your feedback!
