    Sophmoric and silly

The Store reads like something written by an unsophisticated teenager out to write a "scary" story. Suspension of disbelief can be tricky in horror stories and more so in horror novels where you need to sustain a narrative along with the assorted supernatural elements. The Store is simply not believable. It's silly, filled with characters that act in whatever way is needed for the plot to continue, and the writing itself is plain to the point of being banal. What could have been a sly satire on people turning into obedient sheep before mega-retailers like Walmart, with a sinister supernatural twist added in, is instead a dumb story filled with stereotyped characters, would-be scares that aren't scary at all and a final gross twist that accomplishes nothing. A major thumbs down. I would not recommend this to anyone looking for quality horror. There are many, many better books out there.
