    A must read

I received a copy of the ARC from the Goodreads group Addicted to Y.A. in exchange for an honest review. Having read and reviewed the first edition I did not think that Firefly required any revisions. A publisher acquired Firefly and under the guidance of an editor the author has revised the first edition. Those revisions have taken this unique and original story to another level. The quality of writing and the author’s imagination remains strong. In Firefly: Ice Born, the author has drawn upon history, classic literature, myths and legends to create a world of magic in a contemporary setting. The plot is fast-paced, unpredictable and spellbinding. The author continues to keep the reader guessing beyond the last chapter. The twists and turns are unexpected and the flow is seamless. The author has made high school events imaginative and they add so much to the plot—the football game, homecoming, and the Halloween fundraiser to name a few. Readers will be drawn immediately into the world of teenage witch Emeranne Goode and the Snow Valley Coven via her point of view. This Coven comprises of her strong and supportive circle of friends with individual powers. Their voices are strong and distinct throughout the novel. The introduction of the immortal witch hunter, Bennett Bassett adds depth to the story. His ‘family’ settles in Snow Valley with the task to “assimilate, infiltrate and eliminate” the Snow Valley Coven. Bennett refers to himself as a monster as he struggles with this duty. His point of view gives great insight into his powerful character. The transition form Emeranne’s point of view to Bennett’s POV is flawless reveling their true personality. The chemistry between Emeranne and Bennett is undeniable. Will their hearts be open to pure love? Their feelings defy all sensibility. The book cover visually draws the reader into Snow Valley’s mystical world. The author has added so much to this read—Emeranne’s maps of the fictional alpine village of Snow Valley, Firefly: Ice Born character list, inspirational play list, witches, immortal witch hunters, and romantic poetry. Firefly: Ice Born does not present as a debut. Looking forward to the next instalment in the Secrets of Snow Valley series. Will the impossible come to life?

    Interesting, beautiful read

I love the idea of witches. I mean, who wouldn't want to hex the idiot whose texting while weaving in and out of traffic? Or the ex who dumped you for someone with bigger boobs? And I've read a lot of witchy fiction and was curious to see Pevato's take on the theme. I was pleasantly surprised. The story follows the awakening of a normal girl turned witch, and a witch-hunter with a conscience. Pevato weaves a storyline that has everything a reader like me enjoys: forbidden romance, supernatural elements, coming-of-age, and mystery. Her writing voice is amazing and her descriptions are beautiful. I would definitely continue reading the series

    Loved It

I loved Bennett and Ems. Witches and witch hunters so original. I haven't read a paranormal story like this. Can't wait for book two.

    3.5 Stars!

I RECEIVED A COPY OF THE EBOOK ICE BORN: BOOK ONE, FIREFLY, IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW FOR THE GROUP WE HEART YA! BOOKS I have to say I really like the idea of this book. Anything fantasy is usually in my wheelhouse so I definitely wanted to give it a shot. And I think one of my favorite things is the concept behind this book and the fact that Ems has a backbone (most of the time), Both of these things can be lacking in the YA genre as of late. The idea of the immortal witch hunters was definitely intriguing and the detail in their history was very impressive. But, I wish we had more development/backstory for them. I had the same problem with the coven. I wanted more background, more development of the characters, friendships, relationships to get more invested in the characters. I wanted to know more about Selene and River. I wanted to see the push and pull between Ben and Ems before their sudden giving in to their attraction. But in the defense of the coven characters the research into Wicca and witchcraft was very spot on. I especially like the reference to the Salem witch trials through Ems's last name- I caught the irony and love it. This series has great potential I just want more development of the characters and their backstories. I want to see the development happening in the story so I can appreciate and become wicked invested in the characters. The story as it is right now is honestly a bit to Twilight-esque for my tastes. Ems has a backbone and can hold her own, but sometimes she doesn't and for me it didn't make sense some of the jumping between Ems a strong, kick ass witch to a Bella-like wimpy persona. I will want to give the next book a shot just to see what happens, especially with the cliff hanger ending! I kept looking to see the next page, but it wasn't there!!! Overall rating: 3.5 stars out of 5. I am holding out hope for the next books to show more background of the characters and let me become more invested to see what happens with Ben and Ems. Not to mention Miranda! Spoiler: watch out for that one!

I really could not put this book down. I read it in one sitting. The characters are strong and the story is a true page-turner. A great debut novel. Fans of YA Paranormal won't be disappointed.
