    How does she do it?

I've read (avidly!) all the previous books in the Foreigner series. This was my first in eBook form. I've been reading science fiction for decades, and have a few favourite authors I can always rely on. C. J. Cherryh is right at the top of the heap of superb story-tellers. I've seen some detailed and nuanced and finely realized worlds in any number of stories I've read over the years. Cherryh tops them all with her Foreigner books. The plotting is intricate and convoluted without ever being fussy. The characters are well-drawn, sympathetic (for the most part) and engaging, always. The stories achieve their rhythm, seemingly without effort, balancing description and stage-setting with all-out action. I've never come close to boredom in any of these books. There's too much to discover, all of it so well put together, and presented in a way that draws you in, relentlessly. I get to the end of each book wishing it didn't have to end, and eagerly looking forward to the next one. "Deliverer" was no exception. It advances the overall narrative, while introducing new elements and characters, always proper and needful for the story - the intricately woven, multi-layer story that is always unfolding on several of those levels. Yes, just like all the previous volumes in the series, I LIKED IT! Science fiction, adventure, layered political intrigue, family epic... the list goes on. Recommended, in strongest terms.
