A profoundly disappointing new direction for Nesbo

I have waited for each new Nesbo novel with impatience and excitement. However, his newest effort "Macbeth" departs dramatically from his previous nuanced style where he draws the reader in to relatable characters and believable plots . Macbeth is an endless display of gratuitous violence driven by characters who are more comic book caricatures operating within a preposterously impossible story. Who knows where Mr. Nesbo has gone but I sure hope he comes back.

    Painful Read

Too long and complicated. Unsympathetic characters. Lacks the suspense of Nesbo’s usual novels.

    Disappointment

I usually enjoy Nesbo's books, but this one was ponderous to a fault. The other books in the Hogarth Shakespeare series by Atwood, Tyler, Chevalier were better. Maybe it's partly the play - it is, after all, a history play without deeply drawn characters. The noir mood of this mystery didn't quite work either. It just became a slog to read the entire book.

    Macbeth

What a terrible book. Nesbro really went off the rails with this one. Not the quality we’ve come to expect.

    Macbeth

I was disappointed in this read. Having been a Jo Nesbo fan for years (Harry Hole series) I had higher expectations. Macbeth was hard to get into and none of the characters were relatable - the interesting plot lines were killed off with their characters. Having a wife named Lady was too obvious which set the tone for the plotline. On its own I may have liked it more but my sights were set higher.
