    Slow Build

Shacking up is a slow build with much of the story being a lot of flirting and sexual innuendo via calls and texts. Bane and Ruby's conversations are witty and often quite funny, which keeps the story from lagging too much. Fortunately, once things do begin to really heat up, the story moves along at a faster pace and was an enjoyable read. Overall, the book is well-written and amusing, and the MCs are good together. The only drawback is that I feel like I would've enjoyed it more if the build-up had been a bit faster.

    The Church of Bane Cock

This was the perfect lighthearted and hilarious book that I needed! I switched back and forth between the ebook and audiobook (yay for whispersync!) and enjoyed both immensely. I absolutely loved Bane and Ruby and couldn't get enough of their crazy innuendo and banter. This is the first full length book by Helena Hunting that I have read, but it certainly won't be my last! I was introduced to Ruby and Bane in her novella Getting Down, which is part of the Eye Candy anthology. I fell so in love with them, that I knew I had to find out how it all started in Shacking Up. I was laughing so hard while reading/listening to this book! Ruby's inner dialogue is especially hysterical! Everything from the unconventional meeting with Bane, to her adventures while following her dream (I was dying from her initial audition while she was sick!) was fresh and hilarious! I loved all the build up and will they/won't they between Bane and Ruby. Yes, they flirted and skirted the line between friendship and something more while he was away, but it only made their relationship feel more real and honest. It gave them the time to truly get to know each other and allowed the chemistry to get to explosive levels. And explode it did! Of course, the icing on the cake was the delicious narration of Bane by Jacob Morgan! I would have loved more Bane chapters just to hear more of his voice! I'm glad Hooking Up is releasing soon, because I can't wait to read Amie's story next!

... one of the most unforgettable meetings ...

Ms. Hunting has dreamed up one of the most hilarious and memorable meetings in romance history. Ruby and Bane's first kiss is uniquely irresistible. Shacking Up extends a good time to all. Senses remain on full alert throughout. Ranging from frustration, temptation, seduction, humor and heart, the possibilities are endless but the feelings are overwhelming. It's hard for a person to follow their dreams, when what should be the biggest supporters are on the sidelines judging. Bane and Ruby have experienced that first hand. Bane is trying to do what is expected of him. Ruby is willing to sacrifice her privileged life for her cherished dream. Will either find happiness with the choices?

    Fun and flirty

I love romantic comedies and yet I’m always a bit apprehensive when I start one because comedy is so dependent on the individual reader’s taste and even current mood. When I started Shacking Up, I was in need of something a bit lighter. This ended up being just what I was looking for at the time. There’s some silliness, a trademark of this author’s style, but it never crossed into the ridiculous realm. The characters were both fantastic. Ruby was a vibrant and independent heroine throughout the book, no doormat or princess in need of rescuing here. She had just the right amount of spunk to keep things upbeat, yet her struggles and worries made her relatable too. Bancroft complimented Ruby very well and was equally likable. Typical heroes being what they are in contemporary romances, I always enjoy when the main character is simply a nice guy. Bancroft was exactly that, he was sweet and caring with just enough edge to make things interesting. Factor in that he’s an animal lover (even if his choices are a tad exotic) and a skilled dirty taker, and I couldn’t help but like him. The initial meeting and set-up that brings these two together was fun. Though it followed a fairly predictable pattern, it was enjoyable. I liked how the distance and time apart while Bancroft traveled and Ruby housesat allowed their chemistry and emotions the space a chance to develop. There is some angst surrounding the relationship, but it was fairly mild and not drawn out into a lengthy back and forth. The writing and tone was fun and flirty throughout, with a good dose of heat to counter the lighter mood. I think fans of this author and readers looking for a romantic comedy with good, sassy characters will enjoy Shacking Up. *eARC provided via Netgalley.
