Fantastic start to this new series

I'm not sure where to start with this review, first and foremost I absolutely adored the story. I always find it a bit scary starting a spin off series, especially when I so loved the original series. I loved every single book in the Beyond Series and I had this fear that I just wasn't going to have the same feeling with this book. I was so wrong, I just loved it! It's so hard to write a spoiler free review when all I want to do is gush about everything that happened! I already felt that I knew who Kora was and what she was about and the book didn't disappoint. It's very hard to find a pure character in a series like this, Kora is exactly that, pure spirited, kind and selfless. She's seen such terrible things in her past and yet it doesn't effect who she is. She's adored by those around her and it's very much deserved. Ashwin was a character I was never very sure of, I didn't know if I wanted his story quite yet or not. I thought I really wouldn't like him, how wrong was I! He's at the very top of the predator chain, feared by all those that know of him. This book really showed that actually we knew very little of who the real man was. His entire focus has been on keeping Kora safe regardless of who he had to step through or over to achieve it and I think the most interesting part of this book was to see how his mindset changed through the influence of those around him. The love and devotion shared between these two was really magical to experience. I loved the little flash we got of Sector Four, I desperately wanted that scene to be so much longer! The Riders are going to be fantastic characters to read, all so different and I'm really looking forward to the future books. I think if I had to pick a favourite so far to want to read next I'd be hard pushed to make a decision. The writing is superb as we would expect from these two, considering how much we already know about this world this story was so fresh and new. I think it was the perfect introduction to Gideon's Riders.

bro hugs, radioactiveand a donut obsessed criminal

Welcome to Sector One, six months after the fall of Eden (and the end of the Beyond series). Ashwin Malhotra arrives in Sector One with a secret mission (and other secrets). He assists Gideon’s Riders in battling deserters from the Base, Eden’s elite military force. Ashwin is reunited with Dr. Kora Bellamy. These two have some intense history. We see Ashwin and Kora deal with their issues and learn to live in this new world. The world-building is detailed as we meet the residents that make up Sector One. Beyond characters Cruz, Rachel and Ace and their twins as well as Lex’s sister Avery make guest appearances in this exciting new series. You are not required to read The Beyond series before enjoying Ashwin. But you really should. This book contains bro hugs, radioactive isotopes, genetically altered super soldiers and a donut obsessed criminal. I love the dystopian world created by the writing team of Kit Rocha. And we wait for the answer to the great philosophical question, “Which shit? Which fan?”

    And so the ride begins...

**I received an ARC in exchange for my HONEST opinion for this book** I have been waiting to hear Ashwin's story ever since he first made an appearance in the O'Kane world of Kit Rocha's previous BEYOND series, and let me tell you, this book did not disappoint!! As an introduction book to a new series, Rocha gives a great background for both new and returning readers, while delivering a spectacular story line full of steamy moments, page turning drama, and enough characters in the background to keep us coming back for the rest of the series!! As far as Ashwin and Kora... it's about time that they get their moment in the spotlight!! And what a moment it was... an unfeeling solider and a woman who does nothing but feel... can they make it work or will they continue to do nothing but hurt each other?? I couldn't put this book down. Amazing. I can't wait to meet the rest of Sector One!!!

Great start to a series :)

So I finished this last night waaaaaay too late and WOW am I excited for the rest of this series! I got this from Netgalley, so I'm writing a review but I'm not super great at them, so voila, bullet points! 1. This was definitely a book about hope and I think it really nailed what's hard about being hopeful in the face of an (literal) apocalyptic situation. I'm hoping that continues through the series, especially since it seems to really effect how everyone in sector 1 relates to each other and just how they live their lives. 2. Ashwin and Kora compliment each other perfectly and I loved it. They're opposites on the surface, with Kora being an emotion-embracing doctor and Ashwin as the repressed super-soldier (honestly, he sorted of reminded me of Bucky Barnes a little, in a good way) but their deeper issues were so similar and seeing them bring out the best in each other was great. 3. I was SO HAPPY to see Cruz, Rachel, and Ace make an appearance and I have a feeling Lex's sister is finally going to get an HEA in this series and boy has she earned that! Also, the secondary characters in this will make me just as happy to return to them as I was to return to the books in the Beyond series. 4. Anyone worried these won't be as steamy as the Beyond series, I assure you they will be! Maybe less orgies (though, sector one definitely believes in polygamy so who knows...) but Ashwin and Kora have crazy chemistry and Kit Rocha is particularly good at twisting the sex and the emotions all up into the same thing so they work out their feelings while banging *yay* TL;DR I loved this book, it's just as good as past Kit Rocha books with all the emotion, angst and happy endings you expect from them. And it's a good entry point book too! If you've never read Kit Rocha, this is a great place to start. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

Slow, steady build up; story didn't disappoint

Picture tall dark and handsome with a side of dangerous, meets compassionate, energetic and pretty to boot and you can get a picture of what Ashwin and Kora look like....and it's nowhere close. Unlike the Beyond series, book one of Gideon's Riders goes at a slower pace, building your anticipation of what comes next, slowly, with a well developed backstory setting you up for a new era, a new time, and a new family.... We still come across the O'Kanes here and there, which will make fans of the Beyond series happy. For people who haven't read about the O'Kanes, they can still pick this book up and start a new series, without feeling like they have jumped into the middle of something they don't understand. New to Kit Rocha,or follower from day one, this book will satisfy you and slowly reel you in. Enjoy the read, I gave no true details of the story line so that you, the reader can experience it for yourself. Pick it up and enjoy the read, you won't regret it....
