  • A Complex Lead Character

Actual rating is 3.5! I'm a fan of Jodi Meadows and love her work, and this concept is so unique, but I don't know think this story was for me. I would have liked to see the idea explored more, but this was mainly a romance from the perspective of a complex heroine who has so much room to grow. There wasn't quite as much world building as I expected, though what I did see interested me. I loved the concept of everyone reincarnating and knowing who is who despite the changes in their features. Of course, the heart of this story is Ana's journey into accepting a new lifestyle away from her harsh reality. I do find Ana to be a very unique character, as she has severe anxiety and paranoia from living an extremely isolated, abusive, and neglectful life. My heart went out to her, but if I am being totally honest, I found her personality to be a little grating and over the top at times. I was never unsympathetic and I understood how she saw the world, but it was a lot to constantly take in when so many people were trying to be kind to her. One of those kind people would be the love interest, Sam, who is genuinely a sweet, wonderful person and a perfect foil for Ana's personality. He never stopped trying for her, which made their relationship all the more endearing and her poor personality easier to manage. He had some truly great moments and I would love to see more of him. The story moved slowly, with most of the action focused on the romance and growth between Ana and Sam, though there were some thrilling moments near the end. While this wasn't for me unfortunately, I do recommend it to anyone looking to read a complex, sweet, yet challenging romance.

    Thanks for your feedback!
