  • Compelling read

In New York, a man is found murdered in his penthouse apartment . He was a hoarder and recluse. A valuable painting and a suitcase found in the penthouse were taken during a murder and abduction over 20 years earlier. Win Lockwood III is under suspicion because the suitcase is his and he has no idea how it got there. Win is extremely rich, smart and used to getting his own way. He needs to find out what happened, particularly as it also involves his cousin, Patricia, who had escaped from her abductor the night her father was murdered. I hadn’t read any books by this author previously but I realise I have been missing out. Although the main character, Win, has been mentioned in previous novels by this author, it is a stand-alone read. Win is tough, believable and knows his own mind, although I’m not sure I like him. However, the story is compelling, and I read this book very quickly, as I really wanted to know the outcome. And I wasn't disappointed. At times the pace was so fast I almost forgot to breath while I was reading it. I’ll definitely look for this author again. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

  • Another WINner!

Harlan Coben is the first author I reach for, when I’m after a guaranteed riveting read, that will keep me entertained from start to finish. With more than seventy five million books in print worldwide and creator and executive producer of many television shows, this talented and imaginative master of fiction, knows a thing or two about engaging a reader with superb and often witty narrative and main characters that you instantly fall in love with. The multi awarding winning ‘Myron Bolitar’ series is a prime example. Along with Myron in the series, there is Win, Hester and several other regular faces that I love reading about. He is also a genius at producing standalone thrillers with fantastic plot lines, most of which I’ve read. Anyone who is a fan of Harlan’s books will undoubtedly know of Windsor Horne Lockwood III (familiarly known as Win) and this book titled simply, ‘Win’ - features him as the main protagonist in the first person narrative. Win joins efforts with the FBI to try and find out why a stolen piece of his family’s art, is in a murdered recluse’s penthouse apartment, who incidentally may also have been involved in a domestic terrorism act decades ago. Along with his cousin Patricia’s abduction and murder of her father twenty years ago and the possible connection between the two cases, Win sets out to find out the truth, at all costs. This is a cracking story, Win is just superb, he’s unique (definitely a one off!) debonair, a world class fight expert and also exceedingly mega rich. He is a firm fan favourite and is a memorable character that once encountered will never be forgotten. His ‘biological’ daughter Ema features in this book too but she is also in a trilogy of action packed YA stories featuring her and Myron’s nephew Mickey. Harlan has smashed it once again with this WINner! Undeniably 5 stars for a must read thriller.

Een van de betere romans van Coben in deze serie. Zit goed in elkaar! Leest als een trein, houdt je vast tot het eind.

  • Yet another WINner

I love the writings of Mr Harlan Coben. This one, WIN, is as good as it gets. Hooks you in, takes you for a ride, and leaves you panting for more.... as always. It's also good to learn a little bit more about Windsor Horne Lockwood the third and his relationship with his family, as well as the love he still has for his best friend, Myron Boltar, whose name popped up several times throughout the book, but the character did not.

    Thanks for your feedback!
