  • Dominated by Maya Banks

3.25 stars---DOMINATED is the second installment in Maya Banks’s adult, contemporary THE ENFORCERS erotic, romance series. DOMINATED is the continuing story of billionaire Drake Donovan, and Evangeline Hawthorn, and should not be read as a stand alone because the story line builds upon the events of book one-Mastered-and the cliff hanger ending. NOTE: DOMINATED contains scenes of BDSM, anal play, M/F/M sexual situations, and partner sharing. Recommended for 18+ only. Told from dual, close third person perspectives (Drake and Evangeline) DOMINATED picks up immediately upon the events of book one, and focuses on the rekindling of the relationship between Drake and Evangeline. At the end of MASTERED, Drake all but destroyed Evangeline in the hopes of protecting the woman that he loved from the people in his life. What ensues are Drake’s numerous and ongoing attempts to beg forgiveness for his actions by way of explaining why he had to do what he did-but herein lies my first problem with this particular installment- we never do learn what it is Drake does for a living; his connections to the people he believes will use Evangeline against him; or how he came to be the man that he is today. As the storyline progress, Drake believes that Evangeline has betrayed him, and in this, he once again destroys the woman he thought he loved. Throughout DOMINATED Evangeline’s character and personality grows more fragile and weak as the story line builds; she is humiliated and is so ashamed she is unable to face Drake’s ‘brothers’ for fear of recrimination and judgment; she accepts Drake back into her life, not once, but twice following some of the most devastating treatment any woman should ever experience at the hands of a man who claims to love and desire her- her backbone is missing; there should be no recovering from the onslaught of heartbreak, self-deprecation, and low self-esteem. In both instances, Drake jumps the proverbial gun, and in doing so, rips out the heart of the woman he loves. DOMINATED has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all of the men who ‘work’ for Drake Donovan, and once again, we know nothing about their actual employment, or their connections to Drake and his past. At times, Drake’s men had a better relationship with our story line heroine than did the man himself. Silas’s story will be told next in KEPT. The world building left me hanging-so many unanswered questions; too much detail missing and unaddressed; the introduction and mention of characters who slowly drifted off into the sunset. Manuel is a fascinating, dominating, and heartbreaking character-it would be nice to see a story of his own. The premise is entertaining but lacks the details and background information I need to thoroughly enmesh myself into the story; the characters are a blend of strong, riveting, passionate and melodramatic; the romance is a struggle towards a happily ever after. I am hoping Silas’s story reveals some background information about his connection to Drake Donovan, and their business enterprise.

  • Dominated

Evangeline – a woman who has slipped past his defenses like no one has managed ever before but she is his to protect and in order to do that he has to do the unthinkable and drive her away in this absorbing romance. Evangeline has no idea what made Drake turn on her in such a shocking manner all she knows is that she will never be the same and readers can’t help but become absorbed in Drake’s world right along with Evangeline as she learns that there is more to his world than she ever imagined. These strong, compelling characters once again hold readers enthralled with the vivid emotions that flows from every page whether its passion, anger, hurt, insecurity, love, devastation or fright, the readers can feel each and every one right along with Evangeline and Drake as their relationship grips readers by the heart in this steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot full of suspense, turmoil and passion. The majority of the suspense and drama of this story comes from the relationship itself, as Evangeline and Drake both strive for their heart’s desires but Drake’s past and his present continue to interfere in the bonding process which causes lots of turbulence. The passion throughout the story however continues to scorch readers with some red hot intimate scenes including bdsm and some ménage scenes and there is some adrenaline pumping excitement when betrayals and enemies strike at Drake through Evangeline. The well written scenes dominate the readers easily and guarantee that they pay attention to every last word as Evangeline and Drake struggle to move past the obstacles in their relationship to achieve their HEA. The gripping emotions that flow from these two characters captured my heart, but this is one of those romances that has you questioning whether the couple would be better off apart, not because either of the characters is undeserving but because of the situation and the turmoil which really had me glued to the pages and I can’t wait to read Silas’s story.

  • Amazing ending to Evangeline and Drake's story!

Dominated is book two in the The Enforcers series by Maya Banks and is the continuation of Evangeline and Drake's story that started in Mastered . After breaking Evangeline's heart, Drake is determined to find her and beg for her forgiveness. But will Evangeline forgive him and surrender to him once again or will she turn him away? I loved Dominated! It is a fast paced and captivating story, wonderfully written. It has lots of drama, steamy sex scenes, action and twists. It kept me glued from the first page. Although she is shy, submissive and very soft, Evangeline has a lot of strenght, especially when defending and protecting the ones she loves. With everything she went through, I couldn't help but cheer for her. Drake pissed me off a lot, but in the end he reedimed himself. I loved his alpha male personality and his loyalty to his brothers. Dominated is a fantastic book and the perfect ending to Evangeline and Drake's story. Maya Banks writting is phenomenal and makes the reader connect with the story and the characters. I can't wait to read more about The Enforcers, especially Silas and Maddox.

  • Awful

This book was really disappointing. Neither of the main characters is likeable - Drake is a jerk with trust issues who just expects his woman to never ask any questions or be involved with his life outside the home, even after his shady business puts her in danger. For that matter, he doesn't even let her leave the house without his men along. And even worse, Evangeline puts up with this from him, decides it's OK to not know just what kind of crime and whatnot Drake is into because she just loves him *so* much, and keeps meekly going back to him every time he's horrible to her. This is not a healthy relationship (D/s or otherwise), and reading about it wasn't fun or romantic or whatever this type of book is supposed to be.
