  • Standing Ovation!

Bombshells is hockey romance at its finest. It has everything you want in a sports romance, and nobody writes hockey romance the way Sarina Bowen does. It’s her super power. And with the introduction of Bombshells, Brooklyn’s women’s pro hockey team, she took her game to another level. Bombshells is simply unputdownable. ‘I really hadn’t anticipated that my brain could be stolen by the goalie on day one.’ Bombshells is Anton Bayer’s story. He’s a charming, fun-loving guy who’s determined to make some changes in his life to focus on his hockey career. His only goal is to prove to his coach, and himself, that he can fulfill his potential. But he wasn’t counting on the Bombshells’ goalie to detonate his plan. ‘No other man has ever made me feel this way—like I’d walk through fire for just one more kiss.’ Sylvie’s dream of playing hockey professionally came true out of the blue. She packed her things and moved to Brooklyn from Toronto with little time to make any plans. But living in Brooklyn would give her the chance to finally be with the guy she had always thought was “the one”, Bryce Campeau, Anton’s friend and teammate. Except things didn’t go the way she expected. There’s a lot to love about Bombshells. The writing is fantastic—as always, the story flows and progresses perfectly, and the characters are lovable, three dimensional and relatable. Both Anton and Sylvie are the kind of people you want to be friends with. All the Bruisers are. There is a small town vibe in the way the Bruisers are like a close-knit family. You also get to meet a few of the Bombshells players to make things interesting for the future. The potential is endless and really exciting. ‘In my whole life I’ve never gotten turned on by somebody’s hockey skills. But I guess there’s a first time for everything.’ I really loved the way the story evolves. It works perfectly as a standalone, and the progression is exactly right. The way Anton and Sylvie’s friendship grows and becomes something else is delicious. Their banter, the tension, the emotional turmoil, the longing... it is extremely well done and so addictive. There is very little angst but there are emotional aspects that give the story, and the characters, depth and intensity. And there is nothing to worry if you don’t like love triangles because this one is definitely not that kind of triangle. It’s actually extremely well done and very original in my opinion.

  • Anton and Sylvie for the win!

I had a great time with this book! I admit that I am a huge fan of Sarina Bowen's work so I couldn't wait to dive into this book. There is just something about the way that this author tells a story that leaves me feeling all warm and gooey inside. This book was no exception. I was totally hooked by this romance and couldn't get enough of Anton and Sylvie. Anton Bayer decides to clean up his act after having a rough season the previous year. He wants to focus on hockey and does not expect to meet anyone like Sylvie. Sylvie is playing on the women's hockey team, the Bombshells, which shares the same facility as the men's team. Sylvie always thought that she would end up with one of Anton's friends and teammates but they don't seem to be in sync for some reason. Before long, Anton is the one that she turns to when she needs a friend. I liked Anton and Sylvie a lot. These two had fantastic chemistry with each other. I loved that they were both very dedicated to hockey and had that in common. They didn't jump into a relationship immediately although they were attracted to each other. I liked that they spent time with each other before jumping into anything else. I really felt like they were a perfect fit for each other and loved getting a chance to see them fall for each other. Patrick Zeller and Desirée Ketchum did a fantastic job with the narration of this book. I did have a bit of a hiccup with the male narrator since I recently listened to another book where he voices a very unlikable character but once I realized what was going on, I was able to really settle into the story. I think that they both did a great job in bringing the characters to life and I loved the emotion that came through in their narration. I found myself listening to this book every free moment that I had and believe that their narration added to my overall enjoyment. I would highly recommend this book to others. I really enjoyed going along with Sylvie and Anton as they found what they were looking for in each other. I cannot wait to read more of this talented author's work. I received a digital review copy of this audiobook from the author/publicist.

  • A truly magnificent story!

Bombshells had me smiling from the very beginning and the way the story unfolded, I experienced a myriad of emotions! This entertaining book had fantastic banter and great intriguing characters that were very tongue in cheek at times. This is Anton and Sylvie’s story and we are sent on an interesting journey. Their ease of friendship is truly wonderful. When they come together its sizzling, its explosive...it’s incredibly hot and I had to fan myself...but could they become more? Baby Bayer is certainly something else. He is determined that it will be his best year yet! The one character I couldn’t stand at all, was his Dad. If I ever wanted to slap someone about the head, it would be him. He got me so fired up! Anton is nothing like him at all. It can be seen in his demeanour and the way he is to those close to him. A genuine man! This book was an absolute joy to read. I immersed myself into their story and loved every moment. It was also really wonderful to read about a woman hockey player. Sylvie, is a goalie for the womens Brooklyn bombshells and it goes to show that although women dont get the same pay checks as men in sport, they are just as fierce, if not more so, in their goals to win their games. This was a truly magnificent story!

  • Amazing book!!!

Okay so Bombshells is quite literally, the bomb! I absolutely loved this book!!! I listened to the Audiobook and the narrators were absolutely fantastic!! Really sucked me into this world and their lives which is exactly what I want in an audio. Anton, "Baby Bayer", defenseman for the Bruisers is just so swoony! I adore him and am so happy he is a reformed player off the ice now. Sylvie is just so sweet and cool and I love her too. Finally getting a shot as a goalie for the Bombshells. So happy to be back with my favorite fictitious hockey team and now it's so cool to also get a great group of feisty women with the new womens' team to love as well. Such great and well written characters all around. And the story is wonderful too. Things are a little complicated for Anton and Sylvie who agree to be friends after one magical night in order to avoid conflict with another of Anton's teammates, but it isn't long before they can't squash their true feelings anymore. The chemistry between them is smokin' and I love them together and their story is just so sweet. Great addition to this series! Can't wait for more!!!!

  • Oh So Good!!

4.5☆ Bombshells was a great book! I love that not only is Anton a hockey player, but so is Sylvie, which means even more hockey! It was fun getting to learn about the Bombshells and meet the new characters, plus one old one 😊 It was interesting, yet also sad to read about all the differences between the men's and women's teams. Luckily they have a great group of women who work hard to provide as many extra benefits as possible. Anton and Sylvie are great characters and I loved them! They're interesting, funny, and talented characters and they make such a cute couple. They had a connection right off the bat and become fast friends, which then leads to even more. I wasn't expecting the whole Bryce storyline and how all that played out, so that took me by surprise a bit. Bryce was a bit irritating throughout the book with the questionable decisions he makes throughout and the problems he causes. Other than that whole part of the storyline I really enjoyed the book and the characters and I'm excited for more!
